What is tempered glass?

Toughened or tempered glass has been processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with untreated glass. Tempered glass is made by processes which create balanced internal stresses which give the glass strength. It shatters into small fragments instead of sharp shards when broken, making it less likely to cause severe injury.  C.S.A. code requires all glass installation companies to install tempered glass in all shower applications. Doors and More uses tempered glass 100% of the time.

Why do some showers have channel on the ceiling?

When glass is siliconed to a drywall ceiling, C.S.A. code does not consider it to be a structural fastening point. Therefore without the channel it is unsafe.

Can Doors and More use 12 mm (˝”) glass for showers?

The average single shower door weighs roughly 7.2 lbs per ft, weighing 100 lbs swinging with 2 hinges. This would need constant adjusting and will prove to be unsafe over time.  We use ranges between 6 – 10 mm typically.
